Thando
Dlamini was born 18 February 1986 in Soweto Meadowlands Zone 7 and raised In
Vosloorus. As half brother of legendary kwaito star Zola, his obvious chosen
vocation was always the music business - he started his music career by
participating in school choirs and in 1995 he achieved his first success when
he won a gold certificate in choral verse at a school competition. Little did he know that this would take him
onto bigger awards and recognition for his musical talent.
In
2007 & 2008 his first true big-break came in the form of recognition of his
potential to be a future Kwaito and Hip-Hop star when he won the COCA-COLA STAR
AMBITION competition for 2 years running - he then followed this up by scooping
the 2009 NIK-NAKS BEST SA RAPPER ON, as broadcast on SA’s hit TV show
SELIMATHUNZI.He than performed alongside big Icons in the music Industry,
Nhlanhla Ngciza, Mzekezeke, Zola, Hugh Masekela etc.
2012
sees the release of Thando’s official debut recordings in the form of his first
singles ‘ONE FAMILY’ and ‘Straight Talk Breaks - the initial success of these
tracks at radio brought him to the attention of Johannesburg’s innovative and
edgy label, Ghetto Ruff with whom he signed a lucrative deal, which sees him
teaming up with stable-mates Gumshev, Malik, DJ Nkoh and SA biggest Urban Pop
act, Jozi.
This
singer-songwriter, composer and performer is determined to leave his mark on
the SA Music Industry in 2012. Time will
tell, but from initial signs, SA might have another true kwaito star and youth
ambassador. Watch this space.
