Bavarian Motorcycles – Giving Back with “Keeping a Girl in School”

The Catholic Women's League, Lynnwood-chapter initiative "Keeping a Girl in School" 2013 biker charity brunch, organised by Bavarian
Motorcycles, raised enough funds and product to sustain 133 girls for a whole year. Thanks to the help of the Nan Hua Temple in Bronkhorstspruit a portion of these products has now been distributed to underprivileged girls in both Tzaneen and Swaziland.

The girls who received the feminine hygiene products collected through the "Keeping a Girl in School" initiative are from charitable organisations recognized by the Nan Hua Temple. A total of 1696 packets of product have been donated to the Keep the Dream 196 Centre in Shiluvane, Tzaneen, while 80 packets were distributed to the girls at Nan Hua Temple and 1072 packets were provided to Gigi's Place Care Centre in Manzini, Swaziland.

Keep the Dream 196 , is a community-based child protection NPO that uses mentoring programs to provide better care and education for orphaned and neglected children. Mrs. Louise Batty, director of Keep the Dream 196, also partners with Oxfam Australia in order to help young people learn life-skills through Keep the Dream 196's scouts program. Mrs. Batty was very grateful for the sanitary product donation that will help benefit the lives of her female students.

Gigi's Place Care Centre ,founded by lawyer Gigi Reid-Miles, is the first urban community care center for orphans and vulnerable children in the Manzini district of Swaziland. The Centre in the KaKhoza informal settlement outside the commercial hub of Manzini provides meals, clothing and shelter to about 100 children every day. Gigi was thrilled with the generous donation of products for her girls, which is always welcome and needed by NPO's such as Gigi's Place.

"We are delighted to play a part in bettering the lives of girls and helping them improve their quality of life, not only as scholars but as young women also," says Sharon Smith, Marketing Manager of Bavarian Motorcycles.

These are just two NPOs which have benefitted from the Catholic Women's League, Lynnwood Chapter and Bavarian Motorcycles "Keeping a Girl in School" initiative; the remainder of the products will also be distributed to worthy organisations in order to better the lives of young women.

Soweto Gospel Choir to Perform at Two International Madiba Tributes

The multi-award winning globally renowned Soweto Gospel Choir has been invited to perform at two separate international Nelson Mandela-tributes in February and March of this year. The first performance will take place on the 13th of February in New York, with Morgan Freeman and former American President Bill Clinton. The other will take place on the 3rd of March at Westminster Abbey in London, alongside Archbishop Desmond Tutu amongst others.

On February 13th, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and CultureHorde will host a tribute concert in honour of Nelson Mandela - celebrating his life and legacy, and the 20th anniversary of democratic freedom in South Africa. Morgan Freeman and South African radio and TV personality Gareth Cliff will host this incredible evening, taking the audience through the life and times of Mr. Nelson Mandela.

Dramatic readings from the original transcripts of Mr. Mandela's letters, speeches, and personal writings will be performed by Morgan Freeman. These readings will be accompanied by the world-famous Soweto Gospel Choir, who will fill the cathedral with songs that honor Mandela's life and vision. This spectacular 24-person choir has performed with Bono, John Legend, Celine Dion, Robert Plant, and many others.

Finally, President Bill Clinton will give a special tribute speech to Nelson Mandela and the work of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, celebrating Mr. Mandela's life and all that has been accomplished in South Africa in the twenty years since democracy was realised. All of the evening's proceeds will benefit the Nelson Mandela Foundation's Centre for Memory.

The second tribute is set to be quite unique as it's unusual for a foreign citizen to be honoured with a national memorial service at Westminster Abbey, London. Reports have suggested that the Queen asked for this because she could not attend his funeral. The Queen was "deeply saddened" by the passing of Mister Mandela as they formed a close friendship over the years.

There was a service at the Abbey to give thanks for democracy in South Africa after the election in 1994. Madiba also paid a visit long before he became president. The memorial service was due to take place in February, but has been rescheduled for the 3rd of March. That is so that President Zuma can attend; Archbishop Desmond Tutu is also expected, and of course…the Soweto Gospel Choir.

"Universal Music is very proud to be associated with an act of international caliber, such as Soweto Gospel Choir, and we are proud to celebrate Madiba's legacy along with the world," says Pino Di Benedetto, Marketing Director of Universal Music South Africa.

Press Statement from the Management of Khuli Chana

As per previous statements issued out on behalf of Khuli Chana in light of the Midrand shooting that took place on Monday, 28 October 2013, it was indicated that the case would take both a criminal and civil course.

As part of the due process in the civil case, Khuli Chana's lawyers submitted a letter on Friday, 10 January 2014 to the Minister of Police highlighting what transpired on the night in question, outlining costs incurred and income lost as a result of the shooting, and stating the intention to recoup this money via litigation.

We do however remain hopeful that an amicable resolution to this painful episode can still be found.
