AKA’s #Jealousy music video trends in
South Africa – A game changer for the South African music scene
AKA’s new
track, Jealousy, came to life
yesterday in a one of a kind music video that debuted on MTV Base. There has
been lots of speculation surrounding the music video when an impressive list of
an all-star cast was released a few days ago; announcing the video featured the
likes of Bonang Matheba, Da Les, Dj
Fanatic, Khuli Chana, Twins on Deck, and Dj Cleo. No-one however, saw the cameo
by Benni McCarthy coming. Benni’s feature took everyone by surprise and got AKA
fans tweeting making the hashtag #JealousyVid trend in South
Africa, shortly after its 4pm debut.
The
video was shot around three locations in Johannesburg. It includes a strip club
scene, hood scene, and a seductive scene with AKA and the gorgeous and highly
talented, Bonang Matheba. “I'm a VERY big fan of AKA, his team and his work
ethic. When he asked me to be part of his new project I was MORE than honoured.
I'm excited for everyone to see this video. It’s gonna be amazing!! Well done to
him :)“ shares Bonang Matheba.
There
have been rumours that the Jealousy video has broken a record for being the most
expensive made music video in South Africa by a local artist, well surpassing
the 100k mark. Benza from Vth Season, AKA’s record label and management, has
denied this rumour. Benza rather commented that “AKA and Molotov have created a
game changing Video. The effort, time, skills, creativity and energy comes
oozing out of the video. Music and video lovers are going to appreciate it. We
at Vth Season are excited to be a part of this process”.
Regardless of the price tag,
the Jealousy music video sets a new standard in the South African
entertainment industry, and is something all South Africans can be proud
of.
The Jealousy track has started play listing
at various radio stations across the country and is already quickly making its
way up the Top 30 and Top 40 Charts.
“I hope you enjoy my new video
called Jealousy. I'm especially proud of the song because it’s a fresh
new sound. I'm excited to see the reaction when it’s dropped on Mtvbase.
Aaahaaha #Jealousy” AKA
